SJASD Musical Theatre Auditions - The Little Mermaid 2027

Each year up to 150 students from across the St. James-Assiniboia School Division are selected to make up two casts for a musical production. Your child is invited audition for next year’s production, Shrek Jr. The show will run January 23 to January 30, 2027. Current grade 3s to 7s are eligible to prepare an audition.

Guidelines consist of choosing students from twenty-one schools, with representation from all the schools.

Being part of this group is a devoted commitment for five months: September, October, November, December, and January. Each cast will rehearse on a specified day, beginning in September. Elementary students will be required to attend one weekly rehearsal on either Monday or Tuesday. Students with lead roles will be required to attend two weekly rehearsals. There will also be additional rehearsals for the entire cast three weeks prior to the show. Attendance is of the utmost importance, and students must make up for all rehearsals missed by attending on the alternate cast’s day.

All rehearsals and shows will be at Westwood Collegiate (360 Rouge Road)

Please make sure you can commit to all of the rehearsals and all of the show dates.
All auditions will be conducted on-line.

Everyone must complete a video audition and the Google form to be considered for a role in the show.

All auditions must be submitted via the Google form by Friday May 8, 2026 (end of day)

Requirements to Audition:

Your video audition must be recorded using a camera or cell phone, in landscape format (wide).

The student will prepare a song depending on which character they are auditioning for (see Audition Songs below)

Have a parent video record the student. In their video audition, students must:

1. Answer the audition questions:
   • Introduce yourself - your name, your current grade and school.
   • Tell me what role you are interested in.
   • Tell me what your hobbies are.
   • And tell me why musical theater is important to you.
