SJASD Musical Theatre Auditions - Madagascar Jr 2025

Each year up to 150 students from across the St. James-Assiniboia School Division are selected to make up two casts for a musical production. Your child is invited audition for next year’s production, Madagascar Jr. The show will run January 25 to February 1, 2025. Current grade 3s to 7s are eligible to prepare an audition.

Guidelines consist of choosing students from twenty-one schools, with representation from all the schools. Elementary students will be required to attend one weekly rehearsal on either Monday or Tuesday. Being part of this group is a devoted commitment for five months: September, October, November, December, and January. Each cast will rehearse on a specified day, beginning in September. Students with lead roles will be required to attend two weekly rehearsals. There will also be additional rehearsals for the entire cast three weeks prior to the show. Attendance is of the utmost importance, and students must make up for all rehearsals missed by attending on the alternate cast’s day.

Please make sure you can commit to all of the rehearsals and all of the show dates.
This year, I will be conducting all auditions on-line.

Everyone must complete a video audition and the Google form to be considered for a role in the show.

All auditions must be submitted via the Google form by Sunday May 5, 2024 (end of day)

Requirements to audition

In their video audition, students must prepare:

1. Students must prepare the song from the Audition Materials link below.
2. Practice reading and acting out all of the lines provided, with a different voice for each character.
3. Do a box step, march in time, and do step touches. Video tutorials are available below.

Your video audition should be recorded using a camera or cell phone, in landscape format (wide).
